Nazdezhda Toloknnikova and Maria Alekhina were imprisoned for 21 months for crimes of hooliganism when they performed a ‘punk prayer’, a song laced with profanity, a political protest toward Vladamir Putin. The song was performed inside Moscow’s Orthodox Church.
The Pussy Riot members were given amnesty and released from prison on Monday the 23rd of December, two months short of serving their two year prison sentence.
Yuri Kozyrev met with the Pussy Riot girls following their release to document their freedom. He accompanied the pair to press releases, fashion shoots, dinners and spent a lot of personal time with the girls.
