Kalimantan, being the biggest island of Indonesia has an incredible beauty and bio diversity. Unfortunately interference by mankind has destroyed many pristine peatlands often by fires. These fires clear the land for palm oil plantations and (small scale) farming. Last year this resulted in fires which lasted for months and intoxicated the whole region, including cities like Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. This report investigates what can be done to prevent future fires and restore the unique peatlands.
