The 22nd Session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22) was held in Morocco in 2016.

One of the reasons why Morocco was chosen to host the event is a sustainable development strategy that the country adopted. The objectives of the strategy are to improve the living conditions of its citizens, strengthen the sustainable management of its natural resources and promote the use of clean energy technologies.

Morocco has embarked on projects that will allow it to realise its vision with quantified targets: increase the share of its renewable energy to 42% by 2020 and improve energy efficiency by 12% by 2020. In 2030, the share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources will amount to 52%.

Francesco Zizola visited the country’s main investments to document the tremendous potential for development of renewable energy sources.
