For the thousands of migrants who are trying to reach the US the last big obstacle is the US border. Once an open border, later a low fence is now for a great part replaced by a 6-8 meter high wall. The US have spent billions of dollars to build the fence and to ‘militarize’ the border: about 40,000 border patrol agents protect the border. Nevertheless people still cross and many lose their lives due to the desert: dehydration in the summer and hypothermia in the winter.
Everyday many people who don’t have papers to stay in the US are arrested in trying to cross the border and being deported. Central Americans by air and Mexicans over land.
