Every 8 minutes a woman is killed in the world. Colombia has the second highest rate of violence against women and the third largest number of war refugees. Rapes and others sexual crimes, such as genital mutilation, are often perpetrated by the security forces and the paramilitary as a tactic for inseminating terror against the local population suspected and accused of working with the guerrilla.

Their female victims are most often of African origin, indigenous people, farmers, and slum inhabitants. This reportage documents the work of Medecins sans Frontières in the region of Chocò, where the organization offers assistance to victims of sexual violence, refugees and the poor.
