One Day in My World - Mental Health in Croatia

Robin Hammond's new story on the heroic efforts of one institution in Croatia trying to make the lives of people with mental health issues better is now published on Witness Change's campaign website for One Day In My World : http://www.onedayinmyworld.com/

The Croatian government, in contravention of the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, is actively trying to thwart the heroic efforts of the institution and its remarkable director to free people with mental health conditions. Please share this story to let them know that locking away people for life because of they have an illness is inhumane and must stop.

Kadir van Lohuizen's Wasteland wins a World Press Photo

NOOR and the NOOR Foundation are very proud to announce that Kadir van Lohuizenhas been nominated for the World Press Photo Contest Environment stories category.

Kadir van Lohuizen was nominated today in the Enviroment Series category of the World Press Photo Contest for his extensive work about waste around the world.

Since early 2016, Kadir van Lohuizen has been investigating six megacities in the world (Jakarta, Tokyo, Lagos, New York, São Paulo and Amsterdam) how they manage or mismanage their waste. This lead in showing some remarkable differences.

The world generates per day 3.5 million tones of solid waste, ten times more then a century ago. If nothing is done, it will be 11 million tones by the end of the century.

If the world is not prepared to think about waste reduction and actually treat waste as a resource, next generations will drown in their own waste.

On receiving this nomination, Kadir says: "I am very happy that this series is rewarded, specially because it will showcase the issue of our waste problem at the exhibition of World Press Photo in more than 50 countries around the world."

NOOR Managing Director Clement Saccomani comments further: "It is a great pride to see the fantastic and necessary work of Kadir rewarded by the World Press Photo. Kadir builds and tells for today and tomorrow, important stories of our world and our future."
