The Pink Lady of HollywoodKitten Kay Sera lives in a pinktastic world where everything around her is tickled pink. The clothes she wears, the color of her hair, the interior she lives in, even her dog, Miss Kisses, is pink (she colors her fur with beetroot juice). She calls herself a ‘monochromatic’, someone who swears to live by just one color. She hasn’t worn anything but pink for the past 34 years. She eats pink, she drinks pink and she thinks pink. Her pink persona is her daily reality and her source of income. She lives and works in Hollywood, starring as a TV personality and singer in (reality) TV-shows worldwide as ‘The Pink Lady of Hollywood’. Images were shot in Hollywood in November 2015.She was very strict on where and how to be photographed, very determined, almost desperate, on controlling how she appears in pictures, not allowing ‘her image’ to be diverted from the pink.I followed her during daily activities and to places of her choice. She was directing the shoots; I was documenting her -while she was posing.

03.12.2014, China, Kunming, The Dwarf Empire or Kingdom of the Little People.In southern China, near Kunming -the city of eternal spring- exists a theme park that is home to 40 little people. The inhabitants present a song-and-dance show for tourists twice a day. This promised land was founded by a tall, rich man who was determined to 'do something good' for the little people. Chinese charity dressed in commercial attire. The façade of this empire, with its walls of synthetic material, permanently seems on the verge of collapse. Nevertheless, the empire holds its ground.While revisiting The Dwarf Empire, armed with Western reasoning once more, I tried to see the place in a different light. To see that nothing changed but the costumes.
