Tanzania has one of the lowest levels of birth registration in Africa. Only 8% of children in Tanzania have birth certificates. The Under 5 Birth Registration Initiative was launched in the Mbeya region in Tanzania, using a simple mobile application. Birth registration has since increased to 45% in the region. The initiative is being expanded across Tanzania and into other parts of Africa.
