In January 2015, Kadir van Lohuizen travelled to the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo where he visited the Tuwakinge Watoto Namatokeo Ya Vita (Lets protect the children from the consequences of war) project. This project was initiated in South-Kivu by War Child and ECHO (the humanitarian division of the European Commission) to support children and young people affected by war in this region. cocaine production in peru by sebastian liste for de volkskrant

In April 2015 Sebastian Liste travelled to Peru for this online feature in de Volkskrant to document coca production in the VRAEM region (Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro River Valley), in the upper mountainous part of the Amazon, where Andean people have traditionally chewed coca leaves for its stimulant effect. The government of Peru purchases 8% of coca production to distribute legally on a controlled national market. As the largest producer of cocaine globally, the rest of the product is distributed outside Peru on the black market. See more of Sebastian's work on the coca production in Peru here.
