In 2011, Costa Rica had one of the highest number of immigrants per capita in the world; in which about 10% of the population is an immigrant. Many of them are from Nicaragua, they work in construction, domestic work etc. La Carpio and Tejarcillos are areas in San José where many Nicaraguans live. Poor areas, but people are able to save some money and send back to Nicaragua to family.
